Improving coordination between the social, medico-social, and health sectors to avoid disruptions in the support offered has been, since the 2010s, a strong priority for the public authorities. Several coordination mechanisms have been created with this objective in mind. By investigating the local deployment of one of them, the MAIA, we study the way in which the new professionals it introduces–case managers–develop their activity in territories where other forms of professional coordination already exist. Based on qualitative material, the analysis of the strategies deployed by case managers to overcome the resistance of other professionals reveals the different dimensions of the local coordination dynamic. These are constructed in ordinary, more or less formal, spaces of interaction, conducive to a socialization to multi-professional coordination. The difficulties inherent in this process provide information on the current challenges of coordination policies.
