The phrase "sustainable sports" suggests in its current sense that there are, on the one hand, sustainable sporting actions and, on the other hand, unsustainable sporting actions. This article shows how the divide between these two types of opposing actions is subject to ambiguity among the actors who re-appropriate them, particularly when the issues inherent in their work environments force them to oscillate between these two concepts. Based on the analysis of three contrasting case studies, the findings show how the production and implementation of sports and leisure activities in urban or peri-urban green parks leads to significant porosity in the boundaries separating “sustainable” from “unsustainable” actions.
