Exploration of the Past in Couples Therapy: Re(discovering) the Child in the Adult

In this clinical case of couples therapy, the author combines psychodynamic and systemic theories. The articulation of these two theoretical perspectives broadens the possibilities to understand the conflicts, and better helps the couple to overcome them. In this particular case, the therapeutic strategy revealed transgenerational loyalties and allegiances, as well as each of the partners’ identifications with people and scenarios from the past.
