Feminist theories of disability in English-speaking countries

The aim of this article is to provide a map of the development of this field for French-speaking practitioners of feminist studies, focusing on its main currents and their major theoretical and conceptual contributions. The first part of the article covers the key aspects of the medical and social models of disability. The second part examines the contributions of materialist feminist approaches to disability and the third those of poststructuralist and postmodern feminist perspectives. The fourth part presents three recent developments in feminist disability studies illustrating the influence of crip thought and queer thought, the increasingly complex intersectional analyses of disability, and the emergence of perspectives in the Global South.
