Based on an ethnographical investigation of teenage girls living in the countryside, this article analyses what it means to use sexual insults “between girls”. First, the article shows that these insults can unify a communauty of sex, age and social class when they target an outsider. Secondly, to insult one’s friends can be a way to try out their closeness. Thirdly, it can be a strategy to push away the sexual stigma associated with being a girl: by insulting other people, a girl shows that she is able and has the power to judge them and then confirms the fiction that one can escape the collective stigma by “being good”.
