Playwrights: A profession at the crossroads of the literary and performing arts fields
Type de matériel :

Examining the influence of both the literature and performing arts fields on the playwright’s profession, this study was built on a series of interviews and on database analysis. The specificity of contemporary playwriting is based on the coincidence of three different types of authorities – stage production, and reading committees – in the legitimation and dissemination of texts. This diversity in the selection criteria contributes to a greater circulation of creative practices. It clearly appears that playwrights have different objectives for their texts: some writers focus primarily on the stage production, when others aspire to a recognition beyond the performing arts fields. As a consequence, a dichotomy emerges in the identity of playwrights, divided between the frames of references of the performing arts and literature.
