In the shadows of the Pantheon: Ethnographing the homeless in Rome

Par : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2021. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : The article proposes a reconstruction of an ethnographic study that has been conducted during three months in the winter of 2004-2005 with a group of homeless people in Rome. Its approach aims to describe the social logics at work within this group, particularly solidarity relations and the occupation of public spaces. This unprecedented study presents the interest of describing a group of homeless people and, above all, the forms of solidarity developed in this environment, their way of occupying space in an Italy that has seen an explosion of migration over the last ten years. In particular, this article seeks to show a particular socialisation process that takes place among these homeless people, as well as spatial occupation logics that forge the identity of individuals. Spatial reconfigurations modify the meaning given to them by their occupants.
