In 2009, public authorities were alerted about the death of the Parisian party scene by the petition “When the night dies in silence”. However, by 2015, its “revival” was all everyone was talking about. But what does this revival of partying refer to? How is this revival linked to the development of nightlife policies? The discourse about the renaissance of partying has much to do with the increase in the number of electronic music venues, the evolution of music’s place (artistic versus functional) and event setups, as well as their new geography, away from the privileged neighbourhoods in the West of Paris. However, this revival must also be understood in the light of the broadening scope of nightlife policies that tend to urban as much as cultural and security issues. These policies reinforce the scene’s cultural transformations and its commodification. Hence, partying is legitimised, while its role in the regulation of the capital’s public and urban space is enhanced.
