Viewing political violence through the lens of intimacy
Type de matériel :
44
Recent studies offer a new perspective on mass violence by examining its impact on intimate relations. Intimacy here has a twofold meaning: first, what concerns the body and sexuality and, second, more broadly, the subjectivities and affects developed in the relationship to oneself and to others which are forged in the context of family, friend, or love relationships. After a historiographical review, this article will investigate the gendered dimension of (post)colonial State violence and the methodological challenges involved in exploring the intimate dimension of political violence, in contemporary Africa and more broadly.
