The reforms that have taken place in psychiatry over the past twenty years have brought about modifications in the organization of work and transformed professional practice. In psychiatric hospitals, social workers have not lived happily through these changes. Their complaints are often heard both in formal and informal settings. They express a feeling of powerlessness to carry out solutions adapted to patients and to respond to expectations by the medical teams who are equally under pressure. The research presented here studies the explicit and hidden elements of this discourse within organizations. It expresses a feeling of disqualification, of being demoted, and is part of a strategy by these actors to preserve their position in the organization and to save their professional practice. This all takes place in a context of major organizational change.
