Ongoing training: “Earthly nourishment” for social work?

Ongoing training for social workers covers three dimensions of action: the individual level, the collective level, and that of the whole society. Legislation passed in March 2014 has considerably renovated this activity, which now faces limitations on its resources and the introduction of new forms of accountability with regard to its actors. In this context, three ways of moving forward are proposed: firstly, ongoing professional training could be a process of collective development rather than a continuation of its current focus on individualized practices. Secondly, it could have a territorial base, thus becoming a means of generating a shared culture, the territory now being the key feature of social intervention. Thirdly, professional and experiential knowledge could be shared between service users and professionals within the training process.
