Training for social workers at the French Red Cross: Heritage, adaptation, and evolution
Type de matériel :

The French Red Cross has a strong tradition of training for social workers that goes back to the nineteenth century. They were first aimed at women working with the war-wounded and then extended as a response to new social needs. The training for the “Social Assistant” diploma in place from the 1930s onwards is an emblematic example, since it testifies to the will to respond to constantly changing social realities. The network of training centers are sensitive to these evolutions and adapt their training strategies, within the framework of professionalization of training trajectories, while remaining faithful to the founding principles of the international Red Cross movement.
