This article discusses the links between the participation of service-users at different levels of governance in the field of social work research and civil participation in the decision-making process. Several contradictory tensions are present in the area of public policy, which means that researchers take up a position when they make an epistemological or methodological choice. The article presents a procedure used in research that enables it to confront different normative universes and changing relational configurations by creating a deliberative space that contributes to strengthening the democratization of the knowledge produced.
