Service users in mental health as social science researchers

Par : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2018. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : This article gives an account of a research project currently in progress “From Disqualification to Finding a Voice in Mental Health.” This research, initiated by the Advocacy association in France, a group of users of mental health services, studies the conditions of emergence of a voice in mental health and how people called “psychiatrically disabled” can be taken into account by public decision makers. This action research project consists in enabling service users to carry out an enquiry process on situations of communication with institutions. They reveal both the difficulties of communication in expressing themselves and the problems institutions have in hearing their voice. The challenge is to rely on users themselves to identify obstacles and to recommend good practices to overcome them.
