This introductory article to the issue studies the transformations the rural world is undergoing and attempts to define their limits and the problems that have arisen. Social and health interventions have necessarily accompanied this profound evolution of these territories and life spaces, which has seen the “country” shrink and be replaced by peri-urbanization. These modifications of space as well as of ways of life bring new and specific social problems. How can social workers integrate these evolutions and respond to the issues they raise?
