The process of constructing professional identities: Reflections and issues

The present article uses the identity model as a framework for investigating the mechanisms related to professional identity in social work. Using theoretical support and reflections from social work practices, it highlights issues of identity dynamics in the field of social work, emphasizing the key role of social representations. We also integrate and share perspectives about each social work entity, as social workers, instructors, learners, and accompanied persons. The implications for interactions and projects, spaces for mutual development and/or (re) negotiation of the place and role of actors in context are also discussed.
