This article reports on the trajectories of people who were taken into care as children and later became social workers. The exploration of these trajectories aims to understand the factors that may have triggered and developed this career choice and that promote and enable this social movement. The words of these people evoke the complexity in which they find themselves during their training and also in the practicing of their profession. Indeed, the children, adolescents, or adults they care for may have a history very similar to their own, and in this case how do they find the “right distance” between their own history and their function? They may also be questioned by colleagues about their legitimacy to occupy a position and a function as a social worker.
