Résumé Cet article propose une lecture d’un nouvel espace public mondialisé, situé au bord d’une lagune récemment assainie, qui est devenu, en quelques années seulement, un observatoire privilégié des transformations du système sociétal de la capitale tunisienne. Les situations d’interaction citadine sont l’occasion de traiter ensemble, pratiques et représentations, matériel et idéel, individuel et collectif. Cette transversalité permet de mettre en lumière une double réalité sociale : d’un côté, la corniche apparaît comme un véritable lieu commun, un condensé d’urbanité fondé sur un ensemble de valeurs transgressant le système normatif des espaces publics traditionnels de proximité, de reconnaissance et d’habitudes. D’un autre côté, la corniche est le révélateur de nouvelles pratiques balnéaires qui reflètent une maritimité contemporaine et participent à la redéfinition du rapport des Tunisois à leur lagune.

This paper offers an interpretation of a new globalised public space located on the waterfront of a recently restored lagoon, which has become, in the space of just a few years, an ideal place for observing the changes in the societal system of Tunisia’s capital city. Interactions between citydwellers offer an opportunity to address practices and representations as a whole. This cross-cutting approach makes it possible to objectivise a double social reality: on the one hand, the lakeside appears to be a genuinely shared place, a concentrate of urbanity based on a set of values transgressing the normative system of customary public spaces of proximity, recognition and habits. On the other hand, the lakeside reveals new practices, which reflect a contemporary maritimity and are helping redefine the relationship between the residents of Tunis and their lagoon.
