Cette contribution s’inscrit dans le contexte de débats qui animent la géographie francophone, qui serait « acritique » et peinerait à aborder la dimension politique des grands défis contemporains (inégalités socio-naturelles) à l’inverse de la political ecology. Le but est de montrer, à travers l’étude des relations sociétés/eaux souterraines en Espagne, qu’il est possible de trouver dans la géographie francophone des années 1970-1980 des propositions théoriques fécondes qui permettent de pratiquer une géographie à la fois critique, systémique, constructiviste, multi-scalaire et historique tout comme la political ecology.

This paper is part of the debate within French geography over the idea that it is “a-critical” and struggling to address the political dimension of today’s major challenges (social-natural inequalities) when compared to political ecology. Through the study of the relationship between societies and underground water in Spain, we will show that the francophone geography of the 1970s-1980s provided fruitful theoretical propositions, which offer the possibility of engaging in a geography that is as critical, systematic, constructivist, multi-scalar and historic as political ecology.
