The origins of « Taylorism à la française »: Gustave PlyIn 1888, Artillery Captain Gustave Ply published his « Study of the Organisation of the Technical Services of Weapons Factories ». In addition to his proposal of a technical model, the study shows the rote played by the government military industrial sector in rationalising French industrial organisation. It traces the historical roots of a « Taylorism à la française » which was born independently of its American counterpart and which possibly influenced the future development of French industry.
