RésuméLes influences subies par Fayol sont peu connues. Cet article montre une filiation avec les idées de Saint-Simon. En grand nombre, les thèmes sont communs. Sous la plume de Saint-Simon, le mot « administration » a parfois le sens de « gestion » comme chez Fayol. L’expression « capacité administrative » est employée très souvent par Saint-Simon. Cette convergence n’est pas le fait du hasard. Le patron direct de Fayol dans son entreprise est un saint-simonien actif. Stéphane Mony était connu dans la religion saint-simonienne sous le nom de son demi-frère : Flachat. Une autre influence est repérée grâce à la citation par Fayol lui-même de l’ouvrage du général Maillard.

Fayol’s influences are little known. This article develops a filiation with Saint-Simon’s thinking. Many themes are similar. Saint-Simon employed the word “administration” to mean “management”, as did Fayol. Saint-Simon often used the term “administrative capacity”. These similarities are not coincidental. Fayol’s boss was an active Saint-simonian. Stéphane Mony was known within the Saint-simonian church as “Flachat”, the name of his half-brother. Fayol’s citation of General Maillard’s work exposes another of his influences.
