Le présent article fournit des informations à ce jour non publiées sur la biographie des traducteurs en allemand des pièces latines de Caspar Brülow. Ces cinq personnages – Isaak Fröreisen, Johann Georg Wolckenstein, Johann Christoph Stipitius, Isaak Habrecht le Jeune et Christopher Kernmann (Kerman) – étaient en relation avec les institutions académiques strasbourgeoises. Dans un premier temps, l’étude relève les défis et les difficultés présentés par les divers matériaux se rapportant à ces personnages et conservés aux Archives Municipales de Strasbourg. Dans un second temps, on donne les informations relatives aux divers traducteurs. Quelques-uns parmi ces derniers eurent à leur époque une plus grande importance que d’autres et, en tant que tels, ont laissé une trace plus grande dans les archives. Pour autant, une quantité surprenante d’informations a survécu, y compris pour les personnages les plus obscurs.

This article provides hitherto unpublished information about the lives of the men who translated Caspar Brülow’s plays from Latin into German. The five men, namely Isaak Fröreisen, Johann Georg Wolckenstein, Johann Christoph Stipitius, Isaac Habrecht der Jüngere, and Christopher Kernmann, all shared a connection to Strasbourg’s academic institutions. The article first addresses the challenges and possibilities offered by various relevant materials in the Strasbourg municipal archives. The article then turns to presentation of biographical information about the translators. Some of the men enjoyed greater contemporary importance than the others, and as such left a larger archival footprint. Nevertheless, a surprising amount of information survives even for the most obscure figures.
