L’entreprise Latécoère a vécu une période glorieuse entre 1917 et 1939, associant son nom à la conquête de l’Atlantique. Mais après 1944 les difficultés se multiplient : le contexte incertain des nationalisations, l’absence du fondateur de l’entreprise et l’échec des grands hydravions semblent autant d’obstacles insurmontables. Pourtant le groupe ne disparaît pas. Au contraire, il ne cesse d’explorer différentes pistes techniques et commerciales en s’appuyant sur le savoir-faire de ses employés restés pour la plupart fidèles à l’esprit pionnier des débuts. Au final, Latécoère devient l’un des principaux sous-traitants d’Airbus et de Boeing. La qualité de ses réalisations – câblage, portes, aérostructures... – est reconnue, mais son endettement important menace encore son indépendance.

After 1944, however, its problems multiplied and the uncertain context of nationalization, the absence of the company’s founder, and the failure of large seaplanes appeared to be insurmountable obstacles. Yet the company did not disappear. Instead, it continued to explore different techniques and business processes, relying on the expertise of its employees, who for the most part remained faithful to the company’s early pioneering spirit. As a result, Latécoère has become one of Airbus and Boeing’s major subcontractors. Despite the quality of its work in the fields of wiring, doors and aerostructures, its large debt burden continues to threaten its independence.
