La trajectoire biographique de Maurice Capul est moins l’histoire d’un passage du métier d’éducateur spécialisé à celui d’historien que celle d’une quête de vérité sur la construction sociale et politique de l’éducation spécialisée, en particulier afin de réduire le roman de Saint-Simon à sa propriété d’invention imaginaire. Plus encore, Maurice Capul nous offre une tension existentielle nourrie d’un appétit d’altérité : faire de l’histoire pour se donner du repos afin de « sauver le temps de la frénésie du présent », afin de retrouver le sens du partage, de l’échange et de la négociation.
