L’hospitalisation d’une patiente avec trouble de l’usage de l’alcool, impulsivité et désinsertion sociale, bien qu’étant une réalité quotidienne, est à l’origine de bien des difficultés dans un service de psychiatrie. À la lumière d’un article du psychanalyste D.W. Winnicott, cet article tente de dégager un sens à cette indication parfois contestée afin d’éviter les mouvements de rejet institutionnels de ces patients et l’épuisement des équipes qui y est souvent associé.

Although the hospitalization of socially excluded patients with alcohol use disorders and impulse control disorders is an everyday reality, it causes many difficulties on a psychiatric ward. In the light of an article by psychoanalyst D.W. Winnicott, this article attempts to make sense of this sometimes-contested measure, in order to avoid institutional rejection of these patients and the team burnout often associated with it.
