Résumé Le temps de la consultation pour un adolescent est toujours difficile à déterminer ; autant que celui du moment du début d’une psychothérapie. L’adolescent reçu en cmpp ne s’attend pas à être reçu par un psychanalyste. Face à son malaise, qu’il a peine à mettre en mots, l’analyste devra opter pour une position spécifique de neutralité que l’auteur se propose d’appeler engagée. À partir de la clinique, une réflexion sur la spécificité du transfert adolescent, et la place de l’analyste. Ni trop tôt ni trop tard est un idéal difficile à atteindre qui tente de répondre à la question complexe : quand consulter ?

Summary Concerning the adolescent, it is always difficult to determine the proper time for consulting; difficult also to choose the time for starting psychotherapy. Facing a mental disorder that the adolescent cannot express, the analyst is bound to choose a neutral attitude the author refers to as “committed”. Based on a clinical experience, a reflection upon the specificity of the adolescent transfer and the role of the analyst should take place. “Neither too early, nor too late” is a difficult ideal that tries to answer to an uneasy question: “when is the right time to consult”?
