RésuméLes observatoires départementaux de la protection de l’enfance, créés par la loi du 5 mars 2007 réformant la protection de l’enfance, sont un outil d’observation et d’analyse de son fonctionnement dans chaque département. À l’interface entre les pratiques locales et l’observatoire national de l’enfance en danger, ils doivent favoriser un regard cohérent en France, en créant des outils statistiques et une culture de la protection de l’enfance communs et en menant des analyses partagées par toutes les institutions concernées. Toutefois, la capacité des acteurs de la protection de l’enfance à se mobiliser autour de ce nouvel outil sera déterminante de son utilité.

The local entities in charge of the childhood protection which were created by the March 5, 2007 Law to reform this protection constitute a valuable tool for monitoring and analysing its functioning in each of the administrative division. Placed at the gateway between local practises and the National observatory for endangered childhood, they are meant to encourage a coherent perception in France, through the creation of statistic tools and a culture of the childhood protection and by performing analyses shared with all the relevant institutions. However it is the ability of the childhood protection workers to commit to this new tool which will determine its usefulness.
