À partir de notre clinique consacrée aux enfants atteints de cancer et à leur famille, nous nous intéressons aux impacts de la maladie sur la parentalité. De l’annonce qui vient faire effraction aux défenses mises en place par chacun, nous voyons combien les effets psychiques de la maladie ne concernent pas uniquement l’enfant malade, mais aussi ses parents, sa fratrie ainsi que l’ensemble de l’équilibre familial. Face au traumatisme que représente une telle expérience, comment être, rester ou devenir parent, et pour quel enfant ?

Drawing on our clinical work with children suffering from cancer and their families, we are concerned in this article with the impacts of the illness on parenting. Starting from the announcement of the illness which breaches the defences set up by everyone, we will see how the psychic effects of the illness concern not only the child who is ill but also his/her parents, his siblings, and the family equilibrium as a whole. Faced with the traumatism that such an experience represents, how can one be, stay or become a parent, and for which child ?
