RésuméNombreux sont ceux qui aujourd’hui parlent du rapport à l’image bidimensionnelle comme plateforme privilégiée d’accès à la fonction symbolique. En effet, pour certains le virtuel bidimensionnel est devenu un système complet d’interprétation mythologique. Face à la totale banalisation de la violence au cinéma, ce travail propose d’explorer les représentations eschatologiques au sein de l’espace filmique contemporain et d’expliquer ainsi l’attraction qu’exerce la mort collective sur une société individualiste de plus en plus aliénée et effrayée par la mort.

Many people today voice their opinion on the relationship established with bidimensional images as a privileged gateway to accessing the symbolic function. Indeed, for some, the bi-dimensional virtual world has become an all-encompassing system in which mythological interpretations are rooted. In the light of the trivialization of violence in films today, this paper explores eschatological representations within contemporary cinema, as a means to explaining the attraction exerted by collective death within the framework of our highly individualistic culture, a culture in which we are increasingly alienated and frightened by death.
