Nous nous intéressons au cas où une personne de son vivant cherche à préparer son Afterlife numérique en créant et validant un simulateur de son espace mental. Nous présentons le travail pionnier du mathématicien Ulf Grenander (1923-2016) qui a modélisé et simulé ses fils de pensées en combinant mathématiques, informatique et introspection. Nous comparons le simulateur de fils de pensées de Grenander, aux deadbots, ces agents conversationnels censés suppléer le défunt dans ses conversations avec ses proches. Nous explicitons pourquoi l’approche de Grenander permet d’affiner les deadbots.

We investigated how a person could prepare her Afterlife in the digital space through building, running and validating a simulator of her trains of thoughts. We introduced the pioneering work of the mathematician Ulf Grenander (1923-2016) who prototyped such a simulator. The originality of Grenander’s ThinkBot LEGACY lies in the unprecedented combination of introspection, mathematics and computer science needed to build it. We contrasted Grenander’s simulator of trains of thoughts with deadbots i. e. commercial chatbots offering a simulacrum of communication with a departed one. We showed why Grenander’s work could help to refine deadbots.
