RésuméÀ partir d’un travail d’observation participante, lors d’une formation en France destinée à une vingtaine de guides touristiques étrangers, nous interrogeons ici leurs manières de rendre compte de leur métier et de ce qu’il leur apporte. Ces guides disent combien la rencontre interculturelle peut contribuer à relativiser les différences pour envisager un monde commun. Ce travail permet ainsi de déconstruire en partie l’image prégnante du tourisme prédateur, sans voiler pour autant le caractère construit de l’« authenticité ».

Based on active observation during a training course organized in France for some twenty foreign tourist guides, this article questions their ways of living and reporting their profession and what it brings them. These guides bring testimony of how intercultural relationships can give access to relativism and to the experience of a common world. This work allows a partial deconstruction of the strong idea of predatory tourism, without hiding the planned features of authenticity.

ZusammenfassungAuf der Grundlage einer partizipativen Beobachtung im Rahmen einer, für circa zwanzig ausländische Reiseleiter bestimmten, beruflichen Weiterbildung in Frankreich, stellt dieser Artikel das jeweilige persönliches Verständnis ihres Berufs dar und beschäftigt sich mit der Frage was dieser Beruf dem Einzelnen persönlich bringt. Die Reiseleiter betonen in erster Linie, dass die interkulturellen Erfahrungen ihnen dabei helfen Unterschiede zu relativieren und die Vorstellung von einer gemeinsamen Welt erleichtern. Die hier vorliegende Arbeit ermöglicht es, das vorherrschende Image des ignoranten Touristen zu relativieren ohne dabei die Konstruiertheit der « authentischen » Perspektive zu verschleiern.
