Une lecture croisée des débats de la « Commission linguistique pour l’unification du vocabulaire psychanalytique français » (1928-1929) dirigée par Édouard Pichon, et des diverses traductions de la formule « Wo Es war, soll Ich werden », permet d’éclairer la réception de Freud en France, entre une tradition philosophique cartésienne, des enjeux linguistiques antigermaniques, et leurs conséquences toujours à l’œuvre dans notre conception du sujet en psychanalyse.

A cross-reading of the debates of the “Linguistic commission for the unification of French psychoanalytic vocabulary” (1928-1929) under the direction of Edouard Pichon, and the various translations of the formula “ Wo Es war, soll Ich warden” gives light on Freud’s reception in France, between a Cartesian philosophical tradition, anti-German linguistic stakes, and their on-going consequences today on our conception of the Subject in psychoanalysis.
