Ce texte s’intéresse à la mémoire des juifs d’Égypte, exilés en France depuis la seconde moitié du xxe siècle, telle qu’elle est reconstruite dans certains des écrits littéraires, autobiographiques ou à caractère historique qu’ils ont produits. S’y articulent plusieurs identités narratives, celle que l’individu élabore pour donner sens à sa vie et celle des histoires collectives construites notamment dans un cadre relationnel. Trois motifs centraux y sont mis en exergue : la judéité, l’origine égyptienne et le rapport aux langues.

Living in Permanent Exile: The Egyptian born Jews in FranceThis article deals with the memory of the Jews of Egypt, after their exile in France since the second half of the 20th century. It examines some of the literary, autobiographical or historical papers or books they produced as specific forms of the construction of the past. These productions are explored from a specific angle, the relations between several narrative identities: those which someone elaborates to give sense to his life and those of collective histories elaborated within the framework of social or institutional relations. Three main patterns are highlighted there: the Jewishness, the Egyptian origin and the relation to languages such as French and Arabic.

Dauerhafte Fremde? Jüdischsein in Ägypten Der Artikel beschäftigt sich mit der Erinnerung ägyptischer Juden, die in der zweiten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts nach Frankreich ausgewandert sind. Er fragt wie ihre Erinnerung in der Literatur, insbesondere in Autobiographien oder in Form historischer Quellen rekonstruiert wird. Es zeigen sich mehrere narrative Identitäten: diejenigen, die der Einzelne entwickelt um seinem Leben einen Sinn zu verleihen und diejenigen, die von gemeinsamen Geschichten, besonders von persönlichen Beziehungen, konstruiert werden. Betrachtet man sie näher, so lassen sich im Wesentlichen drei Motive ausmachen: das Judentum, die ägyptische Herkunft und der Bezug zur Sprache.
