L’objet a est à l’œuvre dans l’art tout autant que dans la psychanalyse – c’est en tout cas l’hypothèse qui, à partir de l’un des derniers tableaux de Manet, Un bar aux Folies-Bergère, sera argumentée ici. D’où on espère étayer également la conséquence de relativiser l’importance économique des problèmes de la dite « représentation » dans l’art en général, et l’art contemporain en particulier.

The object a is at work in art as much as it is in psychoanalysis – this is the hypothesis that we advance here based on one of the latest of Manet’s paintings, A bar at Folies-Bergères . Hence, we also hope to uphold the consequential putting in perspective of the economical importance of the problems pertaining to the so-called “respresentation” in art in general, and in contemporary art in particular.
