À partir du séminaire rsi (1974-1975), Lacan opère un virage dans son enseignement en orientant la direction de la cure, jusque dans sa terminaison, sur le symptôme. Il essaie d’appréhender le Réel par ce qui, du Symbolique, entre dans le Réel, c’est-à‑dire : le symptôme. Celui-ci devient ainsi l’indice de ce qui, du réel, encombre le sujet. L’objectif de la cure est de faire passer le Réel sur le Symbolique pour faire nœud. Le fantasme fondamental est relégué ailleurs pour laisser la place opératoire au symptôme dans la cure.

Beginning with his work in the seminar rsi (1974-1975), Lacan effectuates a turn in his teaching to orientt the direction of the cure, up until its termination, upon the symptom. He tries to apprehend the Real by way of what from the Symbolic, enters in the Real, that is to say, the symptom. This becomes the index of what, of the Real, encumbers the subject. The aim of the cure is to make the Real pass via the Symbolic so as to create a knot. The fundamental phantasy is relegated elsewhere for the symptom to operate in the cure.
