Caregivers’ counter-transference tested through repetition

The hospital, as a place of life and care, is modeled upon our humanity. It is always caught between love, hate, and repetition, from which the outcome is uncertain. In this clinical setting, caregivers are put to the test based on their ability to fantasize and can find themselves caught up in a battle against depression, which alters their reverie. Through a supervision of the caregiving team, the author shows how this clinical approach helped develop a representation of the movements at stake; how it was possible to show that behind an identical repetition, it is mainly about the repetition of the violence of the origins. The author supports his group-based approach to institutions with the work of D. Anzieu and R. Kaës.
