RésuméComment comprendre l’émergence simultanée de deux pratiques politiques – le caudillisme, les pronunciamientos – et leur généralisation à tout l’espace hispano-américain aux lendemains des révolutions d’Indépendance ? Cet article consacré à l’espace grand-colombien des années 1810 à 1840 propose une explication de la genèse de ces formes et de leur fonction. Ce faisant, il aborde le problème plus général de la construction de l’État national, dans un contexte sociopolitique marqué par l’adoption brutale de principes libéraux au sein de sociétés organiques.

How are we to understand the simultaneous emergence of two political practice – caudillisme and pronunciamientos – and their widespread introduction throughout the Hispanic-American area following the Independence revolutions? This article, focusuing on the Greater Colombian area between 1810 and 1840, offers an explanation of the genesis of these forms and their function. In so doing, it discusses the broader problem of building the national state, in a socio-political context marked by the sudden adoption of liberal principles within organic societies.
