In medical services, it is necessary to advance into darkness, in places that paradoxically bring to light the reality of what we are, confronted with powerlessness and with our own mortality. It is a “clinic of the real,” a clinic of trauma and loss. The bodies exposed to the eyes of all are the witnesses of an unveiled intimate. This darkness confronts us with a “crossing of shadows.” However, does shade not also protect us from too much light? When observing a painting with too much contrast, our eyes spontaneously fall on a chiaroscuro that invites us to flânerie, to reverie, and that allows us to be brought to the intimacy of oneself.
