This interpretative article with a comprehensive aim, concretised by a case construction, is interested in moral and civic education (EMC) in the first level in France in a psychoanalytically oriented perspective in education and training sciences. This teaching, whose objective is citizenship education, seems to subject some teachers to a test in the sense of Terrisse (1994). Moral and civic education is a test for Romy because the nature of the knowledge involved in EMC, as well as their implementation, provoke in her a tension between instructing and educating that revives a psychic conflict. In this case, teacher training in moral and civic education would benefit from offering support. By taking charge of the embarrassment that the teaching of EMC can cause for certain school teachers, this accompaniment would enable these teachers, in the logic set out by Devereux (1967/2012), “to understand [themselves]” in order to get through the test of moral and civic education.
