Adolescence is considered as mourning because of the narcissistic repercussions and intense ambivalence conflict that it implies. In this text, the author attempts to examine the traumatic disruptions that adolescents in a situation of abandonment experience due to the reactivation of separation anxiety. For adolescents who suffer from significant depressive anxiety and feel powerless faced with the identity reorganization typical of this life period, abandonment tends to short-circuit any attempt at psychic elaboration. Therefore, they might become stuck in the role of “being excluded,” since this masochistic identity position is secretly fed by the hope of being found in the place where they have been abandoned.
