A Woman, Object of Love or a Fetish?

Paradoxically, a woman can be mistreated because she is too loved: the loving dependence of a man on a woman can be at the origin of his violence. The woman becomes the object the man uses—or believes to be using—as he pleases. Some women complain about being considered as objects by their men. It is the case of Véronique, who came to see me to escape a painful relationship with a man who belittles her and considers her as an object—an object supposed to satisfy his urges and his whims. Véronique is, for this man, a beautiful object, a precious, irreplaceable object, and nevertheless, he does not want to recognize that he loves her as a woman. Why cannot this beautiful object be at the same time a loved woman for this man? Is it easier, for some men, to be dependent on an object rather than on a person?
