Prolonged Breastfeeding: A Refusal of Femininity
Type de matériel :
48
From discussions with three women practising prolonged breastfeeding in a militant way, the author questions the effects of the current dominant discourse on the mother-child bond, owing to the sexualization of the relation which this practice unconsciously brings about in Western modernity. After a brief review of the history of breastfeeding and its various social representations, the author discusses the dimension of infantile jouissance involved in breastfeeding for these mothers in their relations with the child, the father, and in their social relations with others.
