A Psychopathological Approach to the Premature Child: Using Maternal Guilt to Heal/Reflect on the Bond with One’s Child
Type de matériel :
51
This article focuses on the question of maternal guilt in circumstances of premature birth, through the meaning and function of this affect. The hypothesis developed is that guilt, in its paradoxical dimension, allows for the establishing of a bond “nevertheless,” an establishing process that allows the mother to get by in cases where the mother/child bond is fragile. Furthermore, in some situations where psychopathological changes occur, defense mechanisms of the melancholic variety can be present and only affect the mother-to-be.
