Some sexualities, such as homosexuality and pedophilia, are sometimes criminally or morally condemned depending on the societies and periods in question. To justify these bans, legislators usually rely on religion or on the fact that these sexualities are pathological behaviors. However, can forbidden sexualities legitimately be considered as pathological? This article falls within the fields of epistemology and anthropology and answers this question in the negative by showing that these sexualities were not always prohibited and have even existed in many societies where they have been perceived as quite normal, without being confused with any disease.
