Incuriosity

Is the narcissistic investment of the ego compatible with the interest of the child in sexual matters? The author examines in what way the representation of procreation confronts the child with the prototype of what will remain for him a sort of disturbing familiar strangeness, that is, the revelation that the stranger lies within what seemed to be known best of all. But is being outside of oneself not the ultimate goal, both desired and feared, that any jouissance seeks? The fascination for revulsion remains, whereas disgust looks away as soon as it catches a glimpse and pretends to look upon the world with an attitude of dull incuriosity.
