Work psychologists in the hospital sector must call upon a variety of capabilities in order to carry out their responsibilities, which have not always been clearly spelled out from the start, and which involve a number of different areas. We must admit that the outlines of the profession are still somewhat vague, and need to be firmed up. It calls for specific aptitudes and knowledge. The present authors, hospital work psychologists, decided to set up their own work team in order to analyze the problems encountered in the field. This article presents the work of that team. In the clinical case selected for presentation, one of the psychologists responded to the Committee on Health and Security in the Workplace after a suicide attempt carried out by a nurse who had been suffering, at her place of employment. This clinical case enabled them to demonstrate their way of working in the field, the difficulties they encountered, and the limitations of their profession.
