The development of the Israeli discourse on Breaking the Silence: When the sons of the people become the enemy of the people

Par : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2021. Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : This article discusses how the Israeli discourse on Breaking the Silence developed from its founding in June 2004 to the enactment of the Breaking the Silence Law in July 2018. By analyzing this discourse in three spheres—political, media, and civil—it is possible to highlight the great difference between the positive attention that Breaking the Silence activists attracted at the beginning of their work and the way they are currently referred to in Israel as "the traitors." This is therefore a chronological analysis marked by three main reversals, influencing Israeli public discourse in general and the discourse regarding the organization in particular: the second intifada and the two Israeli military operations in Gaza—Operation Cast Lead (2008) and Operation Protective Edge (2014).
