L’écobiologie est une démarche intégrative des soins de la peau créée par Jean-Noël Thorel, président fondateur de l’entreprise NAOS.Replacée dans le contexte de l’époque de sa création en 1977 où la cosmétique était limitée à une offre basique d’hygiène et de soin, cette vision des soins de la peau était novatrice et avant- gardiste.Aujourd’hui, l’entreprise et la société dans laquelle elle évolue ont changé, ce qui conduit fréquemment à confondre l’écobiologie avec l’écologie et à atténuer le caractère anticipateur de cette démarche écobiologique de soin de la peau. Nous avons voulu comprendre cette vision singulière des soins de la peau depuis son émergence en interviewant l’inventeur et dans son amalgame avec l’écologie.Au terme d’une réflexion croisée, il s’avère que la confusion systématique écobiologie / écologie n’engendre pas de mécompréhension notoire du terme écobiologie dans le sens où elle renvoie à un archétype de connexion entre l’humain et la nature, un idéal qui sous-tend la pensée écobiologique.

Ecobiology is an integrative approach to skin care created by Jean-Noël Thorel, president and founder of NAOS. This vision of skincare was innovative and avant-garde within the context of its creation in 1977, when cosmetics were limited to a basic hygiene and skincare offerings. Today, both the company and the society in which it operates have changed and ecobiology is generally confused with ecology. As a result, the anticipatory nature of this ecobiological approach to skincare is down-played. We sought to understand this singular vision of skincare from its emergence to its contemporary use, both by interviewing its inventor and exploring its contemporary conflation with ecology. Upon cross-reflection, we found that the systematic confusion between ecobiology and ecology does not lead to any notable misunderstanding of the term ecobiology due to their shared reference to the archetypal connection between man and nature, an ideal that underpins ecobiological thinking.
