Le développement des grands chantiers de musées en France a suscité une forte innovation quant aux politiques de publics. Ils ont permis de dépasser pour une part l’opposition entre conservation et diffusion. Ils ont mis les chercheurs français de ce domaine à un niveau de reconnaissance internationale. On peut malgré tout douter des effets induits sur l’ensemble des autres musées. Les centaines de chantiers de musées ont-ils bénéficié de ces travaux expérimentaux ? Il est encore trop tôt pour l’affirmer, mais on peut penser que les outils d’un tel transfert (statuts de nouveaux professionnels, formations, institutions de recherche) ont été mis en place et organisent lentement ce qui est une véritable mutation de la société toute entière.

One may still have reservations as to the way these measures will affect other museums, and wonder whether the hundreds of museums in construction have all had the benefit of this experimental research. Though it is too early to be categorical, we can suppose that the tools for such a transfer (new professional status, training, research) are in place and that the process underway will gradually bring about a real transformation of society as a whole.
