Depuis les années 1970 et Paul VI, les papes ont régulièrement montré leur intérêt pour l’écologie. Elle est d’abord appréhendée comme une nouvelle dimension de la doctrine sociale catholique mais elle suscite des débats, notamment terrestres. Avec l’encyclique Laudato sí (2015), le pape François franchit un nouveau pas en mettant le climat au centre du discours social catholique, avec l’écologie et l’environnement.

Since the 1970s and Paul VI the popes regularly showed their interest for the ecology. It is seen as a new dimension of Catholic social doctrine, but it arouses debates, in particular the fear that, in the name of the environmental protection, an equitable management of the world’s goods is forgotten. With the Laudato si’ encyclical (2015), pope Francis is taking another step by placing the climate in the centre of the catholic social discourse, with ecology and the environment.
